Hello Sweetie

Cabin Pressure is actually quite angsty and I don’t think people realise that:

martincrieff:

I mean, let’s start with each character respectively:

Carolyn Knapp-Shappey: Owner of MJN, a small charter airline, except it’s not an airline, and it’s just the one plane. A plane that given to her in a divorce, it will be a constant reminder of whose plane it is and the relationship she had with him. Not just that every November he tries to take it back. She doesn’t have the money to actually run the business. She has a horrid sister that doesn’t talk to her who rather liked her first husband. She has kept the surname from her marriage suggesting she isn’t totally over it. (that’s probably really wrong, my skills of deduction is crap)

Arthur Shappey: Arthur has no known siblings, which would suggest he had rather lonely upbringing. He hated his father. He was (in the words of Arthur) ‘alright’ and every cabin crew member knows that if he wasn’t brilliant then he was awful. Not only that but no one really had any faith in Arthur, so when he was top of his year everyone was surprised. Everyone puts him down and calls him a clot, even though he tries his hardest. He acts like someone who never wants to grow up and it makes me think, did he have the childhood he deserved?

Douglas Richardson: Douglas has been three unsuccessful marriages which have left him with one child. He’s a recovering alcoholic, so it leaves me to wonder, why? What made him become and alcoholic in the first place?

Martin Crieff: If I’m honest it’s Martin who has it the hardest. He doesn’t really have a job, okay that’s a lie, he has a delivery job that doesn’t pay him very well at all. So little that he has to live in an attic and eats very basic food. It actually pains me to think of his background.
He failed his CPL, 7 times, (4 according to Mr Shappey) and his father never thought he would become a pilot. Just before Martin managed to get a job at MJN his father passed away. Can you imagine having your father pay for exams because you really want to be a pilot and then for him to pass away never to see just how far you’ve come. Not only that but Martin doesn’t get paid for being a captain.
No one seems to believe he is a captain either.
He can’t seem to get into a relationship claiming after 30 you don’t meet new people and it’s just heartbreaking to think that this man who has gone so far in life can’t find someone to settle down with.
Oh and he has the worst luck ever.

So I personally think Cabin Pressure is full of angst but we don’t realise because of all the humour.

That’s where the angsty fanfic comes in…
